More about us
It was while studying Interior Design at the Natal Technikon that I discovered my love for photography. It seemed that I had a real knack for it and graduated with distinction. After Tech I moved to the UK where I worked in the interior design industry but I found myself continually being drawn into seeing the world through the lens.
I received a GCSE A level in photography from Richmond Adult and Community College and spent much time in one on one photo courses with professional photographers in the UK.
After living in the UK and Australia and travelling around the world exploring countries, their amazing cultures and rock climbing in the most incredible places, I returned to my roots in Durban where I set up my commercial photography business, EKOphotographic.
I had been asked on a number of occasions to photograph weddings and, although I thoroughly enjoyed photographing them, my commercial photography commitments did not allow me to explore it further. After meeting Claire, we started to think about creating a business together that focused on weddings and portraiture.
Wedding and portrait photography offers me a channel where I can merge my technical photographic ability acquired from my commercial work with my love of capturing people, while enjoying time with my wife!
After the birth of our beautiful daughter, Olive, Claire and I started work on creating Wild Olive Photo. We have been on an amazing journey with Wild Olive thus far and, with that excitement I get from starting out on a new journey, I look forward to where this road takes us!
I have always been drawn to working with people and hearing their stories. I qualified with a teaching degree and it was while working in the UK as a teacher that I discovered my love of photographing people and telling their stories through photos. On returning to South Africa, I decided to study photography and qualified from the National College of Photography in Johannesburg. I continued to work as a teacher but my love for portraiture slowly grew into a portrait photography business and then went on to include weddings and events.
I moved to Durban where I met my darling Etienne in 2013. Our love for photography, among other things, brought us together and it is an absolute gift to wake up every day and do the things we love together!
